It’s the time of year that the lolly sweets and candy is in the air, as the little ones don their fave costume dress-ups for a fun-filled Halloween adventure with their fellow friends and family.
Halloween in Australia is becoming more and more popular every year and after the very unprecedented year of 2020, this year, so many families are excited for getting their Halloween decorations out and enjoying time with their loved ones.
I know for us, since having kids, Halloween has become a very special tradition in our house-hold… Since the boys were as little as a few months old, we love to get the kids all dressed up and mum and dad also get into the – ‘Halloween Spirit’, and ensure that we are a part of the fun with the little ones.
Think spooky spiders, bright orange Halloween lolly-filled treat buckets, spider webs, green gooey cordial and dashes or purple Halloween lit up lanterns around home. The smiles on the kids’ faces, as their little faces light up with the excitement of dressing up with their friends, mum, dad and siblings. The giggles as they fill up their Halloween baskets with treats to savour (and the parents to of course sneak a few in the coming days ahead! – it’s only fair to share after all! lol.) What’s not to like, and love about the holiday occasion of Halloween. We live in beautiful sunny QLD and it was so nice to have the news from the Health Minister advising that Halloween would go ahead this year, with the treats part to be the major focus and no doubt families will have their sand sanitiser and baby wipes at the ready to ensure the little ones have nice clean hands to enjoy their special treats and lollies. We live in an estate just on the northside of Brisbane and we really like how much it’s community focused. Most young families get involved and the other residents mostly support the holiday fun too by leaving their porch light on so kids know that they are participating and to knock on their door for the special treats that await them! (*We recommend all children are accompanied by an adult with supervision under the age of 12- years-old). This year it’s on a Saturday that it falls, which will be great for some families and friends to enjoy festivities such as Halloween picnics and BBQs with their nearest and dearest.

Halloween DYI Cupcake decorating! Did someone say sweet treats? Who doesn’t love a cupcake, especially a choccie one! Head to your local supermarket, or bake your very own flavour and have fun with the frosting colours and the icing decorating! For our cupcake decorating, we used pre-made store bought chocolate cupcakes and ready-made icing, which makes it so easy to create some Halloween fun designs, from spider webs to little gremlins, the choice is yours! Ollie, Oscar and I, along with our beautiful photographer, Sarah Taylor’s son, Jordy had a fab time, and it’s so great to get the kids involved and help them choose the toppings and flavours, there are some fab options to choose from – Green Sprinkles (sold out but Fright Night Sprinkles in stock), Fright Night Sprinkles, and Small Eyes Sprinkles (please note that due to popular demand and being so close to Halloween, some cupcake decorating options might have already sold out, but there is most definitely some amazing options left to choose from to create your inspo pieces and fun with the kids). Style Your Home for Halloween, DYI Style! Balloons and Garland Fun for Everyone!
From EEEK Foil Script Balloons in green, white and black, and burnt orange, through to a super cute, “Boo” Foil balloon, to the resident Halloween ‘Skeleton’ balloon, an awesome trio of Stacked Pumpkins Foil, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
A great investment is the Halloween Mini Balloon Garland Kit and it only takes about 30 mins to set up. It’s so impressive to look at and can be used inside for a feature wall, or even on the front driveway, to welcome your guests to your Halloween Home for their delicious treats! We found it super easy to set-up together as a family and hubby will be helping again come Halloween for us to set up the beautiful balloon garland and decorations for our estate’s Halloween community celebrations, which we are super excited for!
Table Envy with the Cutest of Styling Items Fit for Halloween Fun in the Sun!
To match the decorations, the decor for kitchen and dinner styling is also next level. Our absolute fave and what we used in our shoot was the Apple Green Large Plate Set. The pack includes 12 plates, which is perfect for some spooky and tasty and healthy treats for the little ones who are excited to celebrate with lots of yummy food for the occasion. We also paired the set with some super cute cups (sold out more other gorgeous little options here: silver stripped cups and straws that matched perfectly with the green and white plates, along with gorgeous polka dot forks to keep the little munchkins hands as clean as possible! (but let’s face it, the little cuties love to get their hands dirty, especially come Halloween when it’s fun and totally acceptable to get extra messy with their scrumptious chocolate faces – lots of guilty munchkin smiles at our Halloween shoot, hehe).Think organic popcorn, Oreo cookie spiders, and sprinkle inspired cupcakes with bright green cordial juice to quench the little ones’ thirst after their big Halloween outing in the local area, or party at home. We also mixed in some healthy fruit options, which strawberries and cheese and bickies are always a go-to food option for snacks for celebratory events for our boys!
When it comes to some fun treats for the little ones, there are some delightful options for favour bags or organising lolly bags for your trick or treaters, with all of the perfect Halloween colours (our fave are the black and silver beauties!). If you have any left over from the Halloween fun, they are also really great for birthday party favour bags, baby showers, christening events, engagements, weddings, Christmas gifts, or any fancy festivity which you want to have something just that bit different for your guests and loved ones. It’s so much easier than I ever imagined and I’m excited to do more DYI styling for other upcoming special events which we’ll be celebrating as a family later this year.

It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to have a great time this Halloween weekend! With only 9 days to go, it’s time to start the countdown! So, what are you waiting for!? Getting your Halloween planning inspo on and have lots of fun in the process. We just love Pinterest for some super cute styling info. Our real pumpkin, which we’ll do our best to carve out with a spooky Halloween pumpkin face is just from the local supermarket and we picked up the boys’ skeleton outfits whilst we were there too. We love to support small businesses wherever we can, and I try and always allow enough time for shipping whether that be for a special outfit for the kids, hubby or I, or any accessories and of course the beautiful party decorations from such businesses as our valued collaboration partner, Lovely Occasions.
Ladies, another tip that I have, is to raid your hair and make-up cupboards, don’t be afraid to play with your spooky black and brown/white/colourful eyeshadows and to paint your nails with some Halloween inspired decorative fun. I know I’ll be bringing out the special glitter hairspray this year!
When I was a little girl in the UK, I have such fond memories of dressing up as a witch and bobbing for apples at my little cousin’s birthday which always fell on Halloween. I’m now 36 and I want to continue to create special tradition memories for years to come with our boys as they grow up. Being 5 and 2, almost 3, they are the perfect age for Halloween fun! Little Oscar gave us a Halloween scare as I was admitted to hospital in the weeks leading up to his birth on Halloween for bed rest. I still think to this day, that he has loved Halloween from the get go! 🙂
